2016-2017 LRT U12 2016-2017
2016-2017 x 2016-2017 LRT U12

March 24th, 2017

U12’s,

Thank you all for an outstanding season!!!

This Saturday we wrap up our last official day of LRT. The plan is to free ski in the morning on GS skis.  In the afternoon there will be GS training available for those that are going to the Pendoley on Sunday at Cannon.  The conditions are outstanding and it is going to be an awesome way to end the year.  Next years race skis from Atomic and Rossignol will be available to try out during the day, parents need to sign a liability form which will be available with the reps.  This is a good time to try out skis and different lengths for next season.

Saturday evening at  6:30 pm at the Governors Lodge is the end of the year banquet. Dinner and a cash bar. $35 per adult and $25 per child to be paid at the door. Athletes will receive a yearbook, swag is available to purchase, and you will have the opportunity to try on and order team jackets. Please RSVP to Pam at pjmconsulting@yahoo.com

The coaches were so impressed with the effort and dedication the athletes had throughout the season.

See you tomorrow,  Looks like it is going to be a “great day to ski”

Best,
Aaron, Liza, Pez, Mark and Tyler

U12’s,

The skiing this weekend is going to be amazing.    This Saturday the U12’s are racing in the Governor's Cup GS race.   The registration link is on the LRT homepage and there is also same day registration.    This looks to be another opportunity for all the U12’s to show their team spirit.  Sunday we will be having a fun duel SL challenge course that parents can race their kids in the morning and directed free skiing in the afternoon.  Bring some waffle money on Sunday as I am sure we will make a trip over to South mtn.

Next Saturday, March 25th is the banquet and this a great time way to say goodbye to friends and coaches..   All should try their best to make it to the banquet.  We are scheduled to attend the Pendoley GS at Cannon on Sunday, March 26th.   Please let me know if you are attending the Pendoley so we can have appropriate staffing.

Plan on meeting the coaches at 8:00 am on Saturday to inspect the course.

Best,

January 27th, 2017

Dear U12 athletes and parents,

The efforts of the U12 racers at last weekend's race were excellent.  This weekend we are home again for the first of three Divisional series races.

This Saturday we are training from half way down Upper Rum Runner  to the bottom of Coolidge St. Athletes please wear your GS suits as we are going to have a couple of practice race runs on the hill to prepare them for Sunday.   The afternoon on Saturday we will be free skiing  and ending at 2:00 pm

Saturday afternoon from approximately 2:00 pm -3:00 pm is early registration in the Comp. Center for Sundays race.   This will make the morning of race day less hectic for the athletes and families.  Please meet outside the Comp. Center on Sunday at 8:00 am ready to inspect the course.  It is important that athletes are well rested, relaxed and ready to go for Sunday’s race.

Each run of the Divisional series counts as a separate race.  The U12’s need to remember to bring their best effort every time they stand in the start gate.

See you at the Kanc tonight or Saturday morning.

Best,
Aaron, Tyler, Pez and Liza

Last weekend was another outstanding block of training and the U12’s seemed to all enjoy the Calcutta. Thank you to all that were involved in organizing this outstanding LRT event.   This weekend we have our first home race,  a GS on Coolidge St.   The surface is still firm, so it is extremely important to get those skis sharp for training and the race.

U12 athletes and families,

First of all, the U12 coaching staff was impressed with the effort and charge the U12’s at last weekend's Dowse memorial SL at Cannon.   The kids were upbeat, positive and attacked the hill.

This weekend the plan is:

Friday night- Kanc training 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Saturday- GS training

Saturday night is the Calcutta auction.  Reception begins at 5:30 pm and fireworks at 7:00 pm.

Sunday morning we will meet as a group at 8:00 am and head up to inspect the course.   This day is a busy day.  I hope that family members are racing and that parents will be able to help relate to the emotions of U12’s on race day.

Monday - GS training is available in the morning.

Get the skis sharp for the Calcutta as I think the surface is going to be a little firm for the weekend.

Aaron, Pez, Tyler and Liza

January 5th, 2017

U12 athletes and families,

We had an amazing Holiday training camp and the coaches were pleased with the effort they have seen from the U12’s.

Friday night we have SL training at the Kanc and on Saturday we are training SL as well.  Sunday we have the Dowse memorial SL at Cannon.  The race was planned to be at Mittersill on the new Taft Slope, but the race has been moved to Gary’s run located right in front of their race building.  On Sunday we will meet in front on the Zoomer chair at 8:20 am. This race is a practice race and the focus is on effort and to prepare them for the upcoming Divisional races.   Do not focus on the results.  The experience they gain from this race will help them later in the season.

If you have not joined Sprongo.com yet, I encourage you all to do so.  Please go to: https://sprongo.com and sign up.  Then on your new Sprongo site, search for LRT 2016 2017 and to the right of the page it will say "request to Join"    Coaches will be around in the Comp. Center from 2:30 pm -3:00 pm on Saturday if you need help logging on to Sprongo.  Video is an excellent tool for them to use to improve their technique and tactics.

Make sure the skis are sharp for training and especially for the race.

Best,
Aaron, Liza, Tyler and Pez

December 29th

U12 athletes and parents,

This is a reminder that today (Thursday) is a rest day.

Friday we are going to either ski powder if we get a bunch of snow or train SL.   Please be prepared to train SL, but again if we get as much snow as they are predicting we are taking advantage of an east coast powder day.

Saturday and Sunday we are training SL.

We have uploaded video to the  Sprongo website.  Please go to: https://sprongo.com   and sign up.  Then on your new Sprongo site, search for LRT 2016 2017 and to the right of the page it will say "request to Join"

We had an awesome block of GS training and looking forward to having everyone fully charged for Friday.

U12 athletes and parents,

Happy Holidays!!

Our training for our Holiday camp begins this Monday. Our plan is to go to the long boards (GS skis) in the start of the week and finish on the short skis (SL skis) at the end of the week.

As Trevor mentioned in his email we have a lot more terrain to use for this training block than in previous years and we look to take advantage of that this coming week.   Special thanks to all that installed the bnet, made the snow and prepared the hill.

Here is our plan:

Monday - Wednesday  GS training

Thursday- Rest Day

Friday-Sunday SL training (Sunday will be a late start 11:00 am)

Please make sure skis are tuned and everyone is ready to go each morning on time.

Enjoy the next couple of days with the family and see you all Monday.

Best,

Aaron, Tyler, Liza and Pez

LRT U12 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Welcome to the 2016-2017 LRT U12 race season! We are so excited for the beginning of what is shaping up to be another exceptional season. All communication for the U12 group will be done via this page, as well as the email included during registration; please make sure that is an email you check regularly. Please have all the USSA and NHARA memberships taken care of prior to the start of the season.

The LRT U12 program is an integral age group in a ski racing career. Athletes step up to U12’s and further hone their skills and strengthen their fundamentals. U12’s ski the entire mountain, in all terrain, regardless of conditions. A mixture of directed free skiing, free skiing and drills and skills compromise the curriculum for the season. Ski racing involves two primary skill sets: Technique, or "what" you do and Tactics or "where" you do it. U12’s are in their prime learning years for the sport and we continue to focus on developing technique throughout the season.

As the season progresses, gates, stubbies and brushes are introduced as tactical elements on the hill. A combination of short sectional courses, drills and structured free skiing are used to promote repetition of specific skills and movement patterns. Races will be introduced during this part of the season (starting around January). We look for effort over results in these events, and use them as an opportunity for the kids to become comfortable in a race environment.

U12’s are also invited to participate in our February Speed Camp, as well as our full day Friday programs, in addition to the Friday Night Kanc Trainings. Our Friday program (LRT Advantage) will be designed to enhance the existing U12/U14/U16 program with lower coach to athlete ratios and the advantage of low mid-week crowds for maximum repetition. This program will be coordinated by and coached by Trevor Hamilton with additional LRT staff as needed.

The 2016-2017 season is gearing up to be a major success and we’re excited you’ll be joining us. If there are any questions in regards to scheduling, equipment, races, registration, etc. please reach out to our Coaching Staff; our U12 Head Coach is Aaron Loukes.
